Land Clearing in Heber Springs, AR

Heber Springs and the country around Greers Ferry Lake bring a different kind of property than the flatter ground south of us.

Heber Springs sits in Cleburne County at the edge of the Ozark foothills, with Greers Ferry Lake just north of the city and the Little Red River running out of it. The terrain is noticeably more rugged than most of our service area and a large share of the property around it is recreational, wooded, or both.
Lake-area property comes with its own set of jobs. Clearing to open a view, cutting in and maintaining access on ground that slopes, opening and keeping trails, and clearing lots for cabins and houses on terrain that is not flat. Access is frequently the first real question. Getting a machine to the work safely on steep or narrow ground is something to establish before the job is scheduled, not on the morning we show up with a trailer.
Slope also changes how the clearing itself should be done. On a hillside, stripping ground to bare soil invites erosion, and erosion on a slope above a lake or a river is a problem for more than just the landowner. Mulching is often the better method here for exactly that reason, because leaving a chip layer over intact root structure holds the surface together through heavy rain.
There is a lot of hunting and recreational ground in this part of Cleburne County as well, which brings selective work: clearing sightlines, thinning understory for visibility and movement, and opening routes to stands and food plots without touching the canopy. That work is detail-oriented and depends entirely on the owner being specific about what they want, so walking it together matters more here than almost anywhere.
Rock is common and drainage on slopes needs real attention, particularly for driveways, which take the worst of it on this kind of ground.
Driveways deserve particular attention on this kind of ground. A drive cut into a slope is effectively a channel unless it is built not to be, and water running down its length rather than off the side of it will move rock to the bottom of the hill a little at a time until the top is bare. The fix is almost always shaping and drainage: crown so the surface sheds, a ditch to catch what comes off the bank above, and a culvert wherever water needs to cross rather than run along. Getting that right once is considerably cheaper than re-rocking the same drive every spring.
Building sites up this way come with the same considerations. A pad cut into a hillside has to deal with everything draining toward it from above, and where that water is routed matters for as long as the structure stands. It is worth settling before dirt moves rather than after.
